Our Physicians
John D. Pilla, M.D.
Dr. Pilla has been a full-time physician and medical director of Medemerge since 1987 having attained board certification in Family Practice. He completed his residency at Somerset Medical Center from 1984-1987 where he was chief resident from 1986-1987. Dr. Pilla graduated from Rutgers (Robert Wood Johnson) Medical School in 1984 as a member of the Alpha Omega Honor Medical Society, the highest honor one can receive in medical education. Before medical school, Dr. Pilla attended Rutgers University and graduated as a Henry Rutgers Scholar. Dr. Pilla is on the Board of Trustees of RWJ/Barnabus Hospital Somerset. He is actively seeing patients by appointment or on a walk-in basis at Medemerge.
Carol Sgambelluri, M.D.
A proud member of our staff, serving our patients for almost 30 years, Dr. Sgambelluri is board certified in family practice. Dr. Sgambelluri joined the Medemerge staff in 1993. She did her residency at Somerset Medical Center from 1988-1991 where she learned the trade and proudly served as chief resident from 1990-1991. Dr. Sgambelluri graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry in 1988 and maintains active privileges at RWJ/Barnabus Hospital Somerset. The patients who have been seeing Dr. Sgambelluri for almost three decades value the fact they can depend on her medical expertise and unequaled kindness. She is available to see by appointment.
David A. Carrieri, D.O. - Assistant Director
Dr. Carrieri is a full-time Family Practice, board-certified, Medemerge physician for over 20 years. Dr. Carrieri completed his residency at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ from 1989-1992. He is a 1989 graduate of New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Carrieri is one of the most skilled and seasoned family practice/urgent care physicians in New Jersey. He is available to patients on a walk-in basis at any time – he is posted on the Medemerge Physician schedule.
Paul Popeck, D.O. - Assistant Director
Dr. Popeck is a full-time Medemerge physician for over 20 years. Dr. Popeck graduated from Nova Osteopathic Medical School in May 1997. He completed his Family Practice Residency at St. Barnabas Medical Center from 1997-2000 where he was “Resident of the Year” during the year 1999-2000. Dr. Popeck is Board Certified in Family Practice and maintains active staff privileges at RWJ/Barnabas Hospital Somerset. Dr. Popeck is well known for providing the highest quality and comprehensive care for all his patients. He is on the Medemerge Board of Directors and sees patients by appointment or on a walk-in basis.
Syed Fahim Ahmed, M.D.
Dr. Ahmed is a Board Certified Internist working with Medemerge for over 20 years. He graduated from St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, NJ after completing a three-year residency in 1997. Dr. Ahmed is renowned for his encyclopedic medical knowledge and compassionate patient care. He maintains active admitting privileges at RWJ/Barnabas Hospital Somerset. Dr. Ahmed can be seen by appointment or on a walk-in basis at Medemerge.
Yoram Sharon, D.O.
Dr. Sharon is a full-time Medemerge physician for almost 20 years. Dr. Sharon is board certified in Internal Medicine and completed his training in Internal Medicine at the St. Barnabas Healthcare System from 1997-1999. Dr. Sharon served as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine in 1998-1999 and was Resident of the Year in 1999. Dr. Sharon is well respected as one of the most caring and concerned physicians in the community. He easily establishes lasting long-term connections with patients due to his compassion and attention to his patient’s needs. He maintains active staff privileges at RWJ/Barnabas Hospital Somerset and is available to see patients at Medemerge by appointment or on a walk-in basis.

Benjamin Hunter, M.D.
Dr. Hunter is a full-time physician that started Medemerge in 2023. Dr. Hunter completed his residency at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Hunter graduated from St. George’s University medical school and served clinical rotations at Emory in Atlanta Georgia. Dr. Hunter received his undergraduate degree in Biology with a Biomedical Emphasis at the University of Arizona, where he received the honors of Magna Cum Laude. He is board certified in Family Medicine and is fluent in Spanish.
